Food Crises in Dhanaan, Ethiopia – An update / Educational Assistance to Poor Eligible Students / Appeal for Winter Blankets for Afghanistan

Food Crises in Dhanaan, Ethiopia – An Update:

Unfortunately, Merci Corps did not come through for us this time and insists on deducting 15% admin fee for distribution of grain to these wretched people. This is really sad; CAI cannot however, justify paying USD1,500 of donor funds for admin fees and so we will not use Merci Corps but try and find alternatives. We are not sure if this will happen; if not, CAI will refund all donations specific to this cause unless instructed otherwise. We have set a deadline of October 31 after which we will mail refund checks. Apologies for this mess, but I thought Merci Corps would come through like the last 3 times we have worked through them in Sudan, Somalia and Niger.

Educational Assistance to Poor Eligible Students:

Appeal for Winter Blankets for Afghanistan:

As you must be aware by now, winters in West and North of Afghanistan are super severe to the extent Ghazni and Bamiyaan Districs lost over 300 venerable, mostly babies, in 2008. CAI will, insha’Allah, repeat last years distribution process this year. We need to plan ahead however, as the blankets suitable for Afghanistan winter come all the way from China. These come in a container by ship to Bandar Abbas and then are transshipped by road to our target audiences in Yawkawlang, Sacheck and Salekh. A thick, warmth giving blanket that accommodates at least 2 people costs about USD14 and we want to distribute at least 2,300 so need about USD32,000. I appeal to our donors; please sponsor a minimum of 1 pair if you can. It is not right, inconceivable, that any child or elder should perish for just USD14. Let us join hands and invest in this very profitable joint venture with Allah (S).

Help us Help Little Sakeena:

You all might remember Allema, the lady CAI donors helped restore eyesight for about 2 years ago. She had a baby girl about a year ago born with club feet. Unless treated in early stages, she will walk duck like and late treatment will be difficult and more expensive. We can treat little Sakeena now for about USD1,900 including post-op therapy. This case is sehme sadaat friendly.

Jazaak’Allah and Allah (S) Bless.
