CAI’s 105th School Opens – Madagascar
The CAI donor-sponsored Al Mahdi II School opened with a bang in the remote town of Manakara, Madagascar. This is CAI’s 105th school worldwide (out of 108). As usual, this modern institute is in a remote area where children lack access to a quality school. 131 children are already enrolled, and admissions will expand to 300 at full capacity. The school has 12 classrooms, bathrooms for girls and boys, a computer lab, and a library – all powered by solar energy.It was a very happy day for the residents of this remote and impoverished locality in Madagascar, as you can see from these video and photos:

CAI must mobilize now because it will take at least a few weeks to place the orders and transport them across rugged terrain to reach the villages before the deep winter freeze. A high-quality blanket for two adults costs about US$32.

Winter Blankets
Winter snow and ice kill people, especially children, the infirm, and the elderly. These deaths are preventable. CAI will distribute thick, life-saving blankets to the most remote parts of the world so the most vulnerable can wake up alive in the morning.CAI must mobilize now because it will take at least a few weeks to place the orders and transport them across rugged terrain to reach the villages before the deep winter freeze. Pity overcame me, so I had her cleaned up, clothed, and enrolled in a nearby school run by FCRA, our implementing partners in Madagascar. She was automatically enrolled in the midday lunch program that CAI donors sponsor for about 300 poor children like her attending school. She eats protein three times a week.
I met her again last week at the Mahdi School II opening in Manakara. Look at her transformation! This change is not impossible – it takes one sponsor to support one child to achieve results like these – US$41 per month, including lunch.

Meet Emily
Meet Emily, whom I met about a year ago in a very remote village of Sequanna while I was in Manakara for the Al Mahdi II school project. She was in a pitiful condition, skinny as a stick, sickly-looking, and wearing rags. Her aunt invited us into their hovel, and what I witnessed inside revolted me. Her father abandoned her as an infant, and her mother deserted her as a toddler. Her aunt tends to her now. All she ate daily was steamed cassava or bananas.Pity overcame me, so I had her cleaned up, clothed, and enrolled in a nearby school run by FCRA, our implementing partners in Madagascar.
