Mobilizing For Ramadhan
The holy month of Ramadhan is about 2 months away and CAI must mobilize to feed the hungry all over the world once more. We are targeting the most vulnerable areas that are often in remote and violence-prone areas of the world. For this exercise to be successful and cost-effective, CAI is appealing for your donations so we can be ready to start distributing a basket of food supplements so that a poor family can eat a satisfying iftaar. The countries CAI will aid are:
Afghanistan, Bangladesh (Rohingya refugees), Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, India, Iraq, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Nepal, Niger, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, and Yemen.
A total of 23,000 families will get food grains of about US$40, so the total amount we want to collect or pledged asap is US$920,000 plus $30,000 in administration overhead. US$950,000 in total. A steep climb but not impossible insha’Allah.
Please help. Allah bless.
Ghandi Qul
Remember this poor girl sold into marriage by her father due to hunger? CAI was able to rescue her, pay off the debt, get a written promise from the father never to repeat this crime again, and feed the family (for 6 months) via CAI’s current food aid program in 14 provinces of Afghanistan.
Here she is with her mother.
CAI Pemba Projects
It was a happy day for thousands of schoolchildren on the island of Pemba when CAI donors handed over 3 fully renovated schools, distributed 8,000 textbooks and 5,000 sanitary pads to teenage girls.
1. The schools were in very bad shape with destroyed floors, leaky roofs, no desks, and dilapidated washrooms. The classrooms were thoroughly restored, and a modern washroom was constructed. Karume Primary School (funded by C-WEED and CEAMSa), Ukunjwi Elementary School, and Micheweni Elementary School benefited from this program. A total of 15 schools / vocational centers across Tanzania have benefited from such programs.
2. Most schools in Pemba share one textbook per class! CAI donors stepped in and printed 10,000 English textbooks and distributed 2,000 in Zanzibar and 8,000 in Pemba to 15 schools in very poor localities.
3. Young girls in Pemba stop attending classes when they menstruate, out of ignorance and poverty since they cannot afford sanitary pads. Education and locally made reusable pads, each lasting three months were gifted to teenage schoolgirls.
